Organizational Development, Training & Recognition

 
New Employee Orientation
 

New Employee Orientation is held every Monday (If a holiday falls on Monday then, New Employee Orientation will fall on Tuesday) and is designed to acquaint new employees with UTMB's history, mission and goals. It provides necessary policy, procedure, health, safety and security guidelines for new employees, as well as an overview of available benefits. Please review our agenda.

Please remember that all new employees must go to the Initialization Office prior to attending orientation. For more information visit the Initialization Office website.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
In New Employee Orientation, you will gain awareness and understanding of:

  • UTMB's history and overview of services 
  • UTMB's Core Purpose, Core Values and Vision
  • Sexual Harassment Awareness/EEO Law
  • General Compliance Training
  • HIPAA Training
  • Universal Precautions
  • Introduction to Information Protection
  • Health & Safety Services (Hazardous Communication Act/Fire Safety)
  • Payroll and Benefits

LOCATION
New Employee Orientation is held in the historic Sealy Mansion known as Open Gates at 2419 Sealy. Need directions? Click here to download a map to Open Gates.

PARKING
Parking for New Employee Orientation is available on site at no charge.
 (Employees are responsible for any parking costs associated with department-specific orientation on days following New Employee Orientation).

TIME
Your New Employee Orientation will be a very full day, beginning promptly at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. Check-in time begins at 7:45 a.m.

REFRESHMENTS/LUNCH
A continental breakfast (coffee, juice, and donuts) and lunch will be provided at Open Gates.

ATTIRE
Business casual is the recommended attire for New Employee Orientation. You may want to bring a jacket to remain comfortable with fluctuations in room temperature.

CANCELLATIONS / RESCHEDULING
Please make every effort to attend your scheduled New Employee Orientation date. In the event you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact the Organizational Development, Training, & Recognition at extension 76700, so that you may be rescheduled.

CONTRACT EMPLOYEES
Contract employees are expected to meet the same training requirements as UTMB employees and are encouraged to attend New Employee orientation. Please email ODT&R to schedule at hr.odtr@utmb.edu
