The 1st biennial Leadership Conference was held on February 20, 2007 at the Galveston Island Convention Center. The theme for this year's event was Crucial Conversations.
Everyone enjoyed learning how to handle conversations when they turn crucial.

Introduction to Crucial Conversations - Joseph Grenny
The Introduction to Crucial Conversations includes "Get Unstuck" where you'll learn to spot the conversations that are keeping you from what you want, avoid moving to silence or violence during crucial conversations, share facts, ideas, feeling and theories candidly and honestly, and discover how better information helps identify problems earlier and keeps them from getting out of hand. This introduction will also include "Start With Heart" where you'll learn to stay focused on what you really want, use three skills to handle high-risk and volatile conversations, develop an attitude of "work on me first" and understand how motives change when conversations turn crucial.
Learn to Look: How to Notice When Safety is at Risk - Joseph Grenny
When a conversation turns crucial, we either miss or misinterpret the early earning signs. During this breakout session you will learn to spot the warning signs that indicate safety is at risk, notice various forms of silence and violence, take steps to rebuild safety and return to dialogue and identify your own style under stress and manage it.
Make it Safe: How to Make it Safe to Talk About Almost Anything - Emily Moss
When things go wrong in crucial conversations we assume the content of our message is the problem, so we begin to water it down or avoid it all together. In this breakout session you will learn to talk about almost anything-without silence and violence, use specific skills to keep everyone sharing information, establish and maintain mutual purpose and mutual respect and recognize when you're at cross-purposes.
Master My Stories: How to Stay in Dialogue When You’re Angry, Scared or Hurt - Amy Daly-Donovan
When it matters the most and our emotions kick in, we often do our worst-and we feel like we're doing the right thing. During this breakout session you will learn to stay in dialogue when you're angry, scared or hurt-"think" your way to the root cause of negative emotions, discover your stories-change negative emotions and get results by influencing your stories and emotions.
STATE My Path: How to Speak Persuasively, Not Abrasively - Steve Willis
During crucial conversations we sometimes say things in exactly the wrong way. In this breakout session you will learn to speak persuasively, not abrasively and get your meaning across even with potentially threatening messages.
Explore Others' Paths: How to Listen When Others Blow Up or Clam Up - Stacey Nelson
A crucial conversation can reach a point when others have moved to either silence or violence, and you're about to join them. During this breakout session you will learn to use exploring skills to make it safe for other to speak up, diffuse others' violence and eliminate silence, encourage others to share issues they fear bringing up and get safely to the meaning behind others' emotions.
