2022 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award

Nov 18, 2021, 08:58 AM by Alexa Akim

UTMB’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award was established in the 1990s to honor and recognize the contributions of faculty, staff and students who promote diversity, inclusion, community partnership, philanthropy and civic engagement.

The award calls us to take inspiration from his words, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” and to take direction from his actions by annually honoring those individuals who emulate Dr. King’s dream, exemplify the attributes of servant leadership, and have made a profound difference through dedication and service to UTMB and the greater community.

Eligibility
All active full-time and part-time UTMB faculty, staff and students may be nominated. Nominations may recognize individuals who have:

  • A record of community service for a local community organization or the UTMB community
  • Demonstrated the virtues and skills of civic engagement and social responsibility
  • Acted as a champion for cultural diversity, inclusion and community partnership
  • Inspired change, which had a positive impact on others

Nomination Form
Please consider nominating an individual who you believe should receive the award. This year’s theme is “Embracing Change: Climbing the Mountain Together," and the deadline for nominations is 5 p.m., Jan. 4, 2022.
